In addition to the duck hunting savvy he’s acquired from so much face time with ducks, Jim is a competition caller of no small stature. When it comes to duck hunting, perhaps nothing has revolutionized the sport more than the improvements in waders. They fit just about right for Chest waders, maybe a tiny bit big in the body and the boots run large, just wear thick socks. Waders are great at keeping your core temperature up and you out in the duck blind for hours on end. Northeast Arkansas is a waterfowl mecca.

“Small numbers of decoys are easier to carry,” he explained, “which makes you much more mobile. At the end you should have a great feel for the reason that these are a staple amongst waterfowl hunters across the nation.  The LaCrosse Big Chief hunting wader boots have been proudly worn at hunting camps and on farms for generations. Ronquest said it makes the decoys look more natural from the air, and it makes them stand out on the water. Most of our fishing is done on the San Javier River and the numerous rivers flowing into it, again only 20 minutes from the lodge.

First and foremost it is key to point out that waders are great at keeping people warm. You will awaken early to a nice breakfast and then head 20 minutes to your duck blind. You will head out again around 3PM for duck hunting or dorado fishing, again your choice. If the bottoms aren’t flooded, he’ll be hunting a timbered brake somewhere. Especially chest waders, which is what the majority of hunters wear.

Most of our fishing is from a boat, but feel free to bring your waders and fly equipment (we provide spinning equipment for free). Owing to an overabundance of rain that made everything around us a duck and goose smorgasbord, birds were spread thin all over the area. You’ll get to most of the better hunting with a boat.
