Accredited schools meet the guidelines and use materials set by the Clinical and Laboratory Sciences Institute and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Getting blood from patients requires specific skills, and phlebotomy colleges provide training to make the process simple, safe, and easy. The phlebotomy coursework in such programs provides the training necessary to earn certification. For this reason it is highly recommended that all graduates of a phlebotomy degree or certificate program take their phlebotomy certification exam. This course includes a three week clinical rotation in a hospital setting.
